For Fun.
Writing

Writing is my favorite hobby, and I always feel like I should be doing more of it. I was a creative writing major in college and have been writing short fiction on and off ever since; I find its a great way to keep my creative thinking skills honed and my empathy in tact. I wrote several screenplays for fun with a writing partner in my 20's. Since 2021 I've sporadically written a Substack on music & culture called No Flashlight.
Music
I'm a genre agnostic, high percentile music nerd. For large portions of my young adult life it was essentially my whole personality. I was the music editor on my high school paper, the music director of my college radio station, and have been a rabid consumer and collector ever since.
I was in a band called USF from 2009 - 2017, and we toured around the U.S. and released several albums and EPs that you can find here. I also released a couple of albums by myself. These days I mostly mess around with eurorack synthesizers for fun, and very little of it gets recorded.
I also enjoy making mixes, because I like the art of sequencing and I like digital crate digging. It encourages me to go deeper into genres, labels, and scenes that I'm curious about and connect them sonically. In 2024, I made a series of mixes for friends that I ended up putting online and designing artwork for.
Photography
I have never been great at taking pictures. I rarely think to take them and when I do (with my phone), they don't end up having much emotional or artistic value to me. At the beginning of 2024 I bought a point and shoot camera and a five pack of 35mm film, with the notion of taking more intentional photos. They still aren't great pictures, but I thought a handful of them turned out alright.
